Foundations in Rider Development
Kris has always been passionate about developing riders and teaching them how to correctly ride and train their horses. With a focus on strong fundamentals, he works closely with each student to ensure they understand both the mechanics and the purpose behind their riding. That same philosophy is at the heart of The Academy at KDE, which is why Kris carefully selected a trainer who shares his values and is dedicated to instilling these principles in every student.

Identifying a Need:
The 8-Step Academy Method
When Kris' wife, Renessa, joined the business operations, she quickly recognized a gap in the lesson world—for children and adults seeking a clear, supportive, and educational path into riding. With 13 years of experience in elementary education, a Master’s in Education, and a background in business, Renessa partnered with Kris to create the 8-Step Academy Method.

Structured, Skill-Based Progression
The Academy is a carefully designed program that teaches riders of all ages the fundamentals of horsemanship, both in the saddle and on the ground. Lessons are capped at two riders per session to ensure personalized instruction, and students earn ribbons as they progress through each level—building skills, confidence, and a love for the sport.

Advancing to Ownership and Full Training
When riders reach the point of readiness—whether that means leasing, horse ownership, or taking greater responsibility for caring for their own horse or pony—they may be invited into our full training program. This next step supports deeper development, more advanced instruction, and prepares both horse and rider for long-term success in and out of the ring.

A Team Aligned in Philosophy
To help bring their vision to life, Kris and Renessa have carefully selected a trainer who shares their values, educational philosophy, and commitment to quality horsemanship. This ensures every rider receives consistent, thoughtful guidance throughout their journey.

Care for Our Equine Partners
Our lesson horses and ponies are never overused or overlooked. Each one receives regular training rides, performance-level veterinary care, and all the support they need to stay physically and mentally sound. This commitment ensures they remain engaged, safe, and ready to provide riders with a positive learning experience.
